Default Power door lock problem

For the past 6 months I've driven my 1989 Audi 100 without power door locks.. Heres the problem.. I looked at the fuses and saw that there was no power door lock fuse in. So i replaced the fuse and the power door locks worked perfectly. I took the car out and went to lock the door and they didnt work. The fuse was blown..I was told that the trunk would lock with the doors. When the door locks did work for that time the trunk did not lock but all the doors did. I looked in the trunk and saw the green tube that is for the door locks and saw that in the trunk it was cut. So i fixed and replaced the fuse hoping this would solve the problem. I took the car out and the door locks stopped working.. It was a blown fuse again.. I'm in great need of fixing this problem for my son.. This is his first car and im hoping this site would solve my problem.. Thanks!

how exactly did you fix that cut green tube? Thats your vacuum and if the vacuum seal is blown, then your locks won't work. The trunk does work in relation to the doors, but if you lock your trunk with a key from that cylinder, then it wont open unless you use a key with it again. Otherwise the door locks work with it. Make sense? I dont know about the fuse, maybe someone else can help you. Perhaps from the overload of the bad tube trying to get the vacuum to work, the fuses blow?

I reckon the best remedy is to replace it. But of couse, I havent done it before, nore do I know whats involved. Go to Audifans.com and do a search under lock vacuum or something, and see what it says. Im sure its a common problem.

Default Look at the wires inside the....

...rubber grommet in between the door and the car. The wires that go through the door get "stretched" and the insulation rips OR the wires brake. With the opening and closing of the door the wires will make intermittant contact with the metal in the door and eventually blow the fuse!! This is quite common!!

Pull the grommets and check the wires...I'm sure you will have more than one bare wire in there!! All you have to do is repair the bare wires and you should be back in buisness!!

I'd start with the drivers door and then passengers door. One of them will probably have a bare wire!!

Good Luck!!

Default Broken vacuum line has NOTHING....

...to do with the fuse blowing!! Get a golf tee and plug the vacuum line until you can repair it. The trunk lock won't work until you repair it but at least the doors will work (ALSO READ MY POST ABOVE)!!

A broken line will just cause the vacuum pump to run longer.....it will NOT blow the fuse!!

Default Also check the wires on the trunk hinge...

it will not be the fuse blow problem, but I've found these go shortly after the door wires and you get some really strange problems with the dash lights (don't ask me why, never did make any sense, but it did). As to repairing the tube a piece of 1/8 ID rubber hose fits nicely, use a short section and connect the two ends of the plastic tube together.
