Default Problems with 86 5kTQ

I just picked up an '86 5000cs turbo quattro with 150k on it and it needs a few things:
1.) cold start problem (runs fine when it's warm) spraying fuel into the intake helps..
2.) something seems to be draining the battery as it sits
3.) brake lights.... pedal halfway down and tail lights light up... press all the way down and they go off which also causes the computer to give the brake warning light
4.) reverse lights not working

I have a spare turn signal arm for the car as well... what size is the bolt to remove the steering wheel? Also, is there a good site online where I can order parts for this car?

For the reverse lights, most likely that you need a new switch for that. The switch is on the right back of the tranny and you can see it under the trunck by looking down from the steering rack. But you can only change it under the car and it's not easy to reach.
To remove the steering wheel, you need a 15/16 socket.
Can't help with the rest of your question.

Default some answers...

1-Could be a lot of things, but start looking for rotten rubber lines. The PCV from the drivers side rear of the block, up to the top rear of the valve cover, to the PCV valve under the fuel injection lines, to the fuel distributer is all suspect, pull them off and look, don't just replace as they are expensive. Also check the big rubber tube from the intercooler to the throttle body, it likes to crack on the bottom. You will likely have to pull it off to see it.

2-I hate to say it but they like to do that. Make sure your system is charging (~14V at the battery on idle), and check the condition of your battery contacts, they corrode on the inside, I like to take them off and just clean both the contacts and posts with sandpaper.

3-Sound like you need and new brake switch. Up under the dash in front of the pedal.

Good luck with it.

Default rear lights...

Check the wiring on the trunk lid hinge... sometimes this gets worn and broken and some rear lights (license plate bulbs, reverse lights) won't function.

Hope this Helps,
