Question for Avery Ironside

Thanks for the recall notice about the cat. converter. Mine started rattling a few months ago and I was about to plop down the $600 to have it replaced. I noticed the notice said it was for Audi's with automatics. Mine is a 5 speed. Was your Audi a 5sp or auto? I knowmy left Cat. is rattling like the notice said.

Yeah, I do have an automatic. I'm surprised it would only cover automatic cars. Are the cats really different? Too bad...

It might still be possible if you bug them, though. I got bounced back and forth between Audi of America and VW Canada (I'm in Toronto) with both of them claiming the other company sold me the car and was thus responsible. Eventually Audi of America gave in and gave me a "Goodwill repair", paying the $1,500 CDN. Who knows?

Thanks for the follow up. My vin# is just out of the range that was on the notice. I called Audi of America and they said my o2 sensor probably caused my converter to go out. I think he is right but I might hang in there and see if I can persuade them to pay for it anyway. Can't hurt. It is a lot of money for me right now. Especially with my leaky rack.

I know how you feel...

A while ago I was just outside the vin range for the recall on the ignition switch (which causes the electrical system to conk out). Luckily it was covered under the extended warranty I purchased when I bought the car.

My power antenna just died for the second time! Argh!

You are going through the same things I was.

Every time I turned around, something was broken! :-( Sunroof would quit and then start again, power windows were flaky, climate control problems, check engine light, sensors, etc. I spent about $4K in repairs (some were normal wear and tear, but...)on my 90 last year! :-( You know what though? I'm still kicking myself for letting it go. Despite the problems, I loved that car, and I want it back. Just try to remember that to get anything as nice, you'll have a $500+ per month car payment! :-)<p>Charles
