Question for the smart ones
1) when the oil gets hot I run at 3 bar .. is that too low? I run with 15w-40
2) What does each bar stand for in psi does a 3 bar equal 30 psi or what is the rate.
3) also how do u read the bar, when you look at it while driving (the gauge is at a angle it reads higher than if u look at it straight on. Which way should it be read? Wierd question but just curious...
Pressure depends on what your doing: WOT, idling or cruising?? 3 bars would be okay for idling but too low for the others!!
But the guage should be read from straight on. The angle does cause a parallax when reading the guage. Although I wouldn't worry about it...the guages themselves usually aren't that accurate!!
Also, 1 bar ~ 14.5 psi
Hope this helps

BTW, I think Audi says it should be above 1.6 or 1.8 bar when driving, which I assume means with some throttle.<p>Charles

2)A bar for all practical purposes = 15 psi
3) As others said, best way is look head-on at the gauge, not from the side. Wouldn't expect big difference between head-on vs. normal driving position reading.
