Recirc flap 5K

While working on my A/C, to get it back to blowing cold again... the blower works, programmer works, etc, etc... I was in the recirc flap area, and disconnected the spring. I started pulling tons and tons of leaves and crap out of this area. Is there any way that I can make sure that this area is totally cleaned out? I can see how the leaves came in... how do I get it all out? What affect does this have on my system? I also noticed an old black vacuum line hanging down into the area from the left side. I tried to follow the vacuum line, but couldn't feel where it went to. Where do the ends connect to? I have also noticed that the recirc flap doesn't open or close when the a/c or defrost is on, making me suspect this disconnected vacuum line..

Any help is much appreciated!!!

Very common to get leaves sucked in there, as well as loose stuff from the passenger footwell area.

Also, check to see if the flap spring is intact and the conectors on either end of the spring are still tight. The spting can break over time and the flap won't move.

And now would be the perfect time to have the TSB done on the A/C programmer vacuum system. You MUST have this done to protect your programmer unit (behind the glove compartment) from having engine oil sucked into it and destroying it. This resulted fom an Audi design flaw in the early 5000 series engine vacuum systems. Audi kept the TSB pretty quiet, unfortunately.

It ended up costing me hundreds to repair the damage to my system, after it occurred twice, before I had the TSB oil trap system put in by the dealer. (Great he didn't tell me about it beforehand. . . . )
