Request on specs for an 86 5000s

I think you can call AoA and they'll fax you a spec sheet.

Long, heavy, holds 4 wheels in trunk

86 was first year to have aero lights, digital climate control (previous looked the same, but was analog), abs for TQ (which also got the niftier hood, watercooled turbo and MC engine), and adjustable shoulder height in the front seatbelts.In general; little headroom, relaxed but extremely competent handling for all versions, good mpg (as much as 32 highway for fwd n/a), don't tow anything heavy - tends to overheat. All versions capable of 250K if maintained, can be nickel&dimey. Power steering fluid is more expensive than blood plasma, and it leaks out regularly (in all but mine)86 is a crossover year, pre-86 is junk (power windows failed, electrical problems were worse, turbo engine not nearly as good), 87 excellent, 88 first year Quattro without turbo, 89 walnut interior and torsen diff for quattro, 91 20VT :-)))), 92 early A6 body style. My 86 has 200K and still looks & runs great. Pearl is the ultimate color, avoid automatics like the plague.More than you wanted to know...Todd W

Yah, I do know it's long and heavy and the trunk is huge. The reason why I asked is that my parents still have an 86 with over 270000km on it... power windows don't work, side mirrors don't work, barely any heat at all during the cold prairie winters in Canada, air condition doesn't work, list goes on and on unfortunately.Trying to convince them to look at the new A4 or a Passat but they insist on a huge trunk.Thanks.

Fold down seats do a lot!!

If you want an A4, but it holds 4 wheels without folding down the seats.The A6 is very good, and there are a few last year ones on the dealer lots if you prefer the older body style and a good deal (In particular there is a 98 A6QW pearl with automatic down here that the price keeps falling on if anyone is interested)I'm confused that the heat doesn't work well on yours, but no point discussing it.Good luck,Todd W
