Rust!

Here is some proof that older Audi's do rust. This pic is of the right side rocker panel looking straight down. I thought this was going to be a small weekend job to fix, but ended up turning into almost a week long project. After removing all the trim I discovered that there was major just all along the rocker panel. It looks like this rocker panel was severly damaged in an accident by the previous owner. There was alot of Bondo on this panel, and it just started to rust inside the bondo. When the bondo was removed, it exposed all these large holes. To fix it, I used alot of fiberglass and a lot of sanding. Since the lower part is covered by a trim piece, I didn't even try to make it look perfect. But the final result looks pretty good.Matt

Rust! another shot

BTW, this is on my '86 4000 cs quattro. There is still some more rust on this car, but hopefully it won't be as bad has this. I guess I'll find out this summer when I fix it!Matt

Judging from the picture, at least, you did a GREAT job on the repair.Seeing your car reminds me of my first personal experience with Audi's. Back in '92, I had an accident that totalled my vehicle. I test drove an '86 4000 cs quattro (no rust, in MN, no less!) on a Sat., check from insurance company would be in my hand on following Tues. I fell in love with it immediately, especially the quattro. After the test drive, the salesman went to talk to sales manager. I waited about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, a different salesman takes a woman for test drive in same car. She gets back, my salesman comes back and tells me that they can't wait until Tuesday, even with a deposit! Man, was I depressed! I'd bet "dollars to donuts" that woman that test drove it after me bought it the same day.Forgive me if you've posted this before and I don't remember, but what mods (if any) does this car have?TIA,al future 1.8tqm+
