The Saga is winding down

My Audi mechanic found another hydraulic leak. The good news is that it was not in the rack and pinion. He found a leak in the high pressure hose going from the resevoir to the rack. Those hoses are expensive (well I guess most high pressure hoses are). Anyway, so far so good. Now I've got to take my car back to the "butcher shop" on Friday to have the speedometer fixed. My mechanic was going to reconnect it but he said the other place messed up the end of the cable so the whole cable has to be fixed. I really don't want the other place to touch my car again but they caused the problem and I'm going to make them fix it. Looks like my saga is nearing a close. I will be glad to get it all fixed so I can enjoy my luxury ride again.
What is this about a recall on 5000's ? Something about axle oil?

Make sure they use the factory hose...

my neighbor had a "butcher" shop put on a new hose that was built up out of standard fittings that resulted in a vibration in the steering. The factory hose has some built in damping that the aftermarket parts didn't have.

The hose from the rack to the resevoir is low pressure

I had mine rebuilt at an industrial hose place. In fact, I had 3 of the 4 low pressure lines rebuilt or replaced for a grand total of $22 - me doing the labor.

The high pressure hose from the pump to the rack with the restrictor is a whole 'nother story. I have heard that some people have had it rebuilt, but I don't know if that is a good idea.
