Transmission On 84' 5000s

Somewhat of a PITA. You need an engine hoist or similar to support the motor.
Is it a stick or an automatic?
*Drop the exhaust, from the manifold back
*remove one of the half shafts from the car
*detach the other one from the tranny
*jack up the front of the motor
*detach shift linkage and electrical connections (remember the speedo!)
*detach tranny from engine, watch out it weighs as much as 200 lbs.
*use tranny jack to remove and lower it
Going back in is difficult with a stick, you have to spin the engine in order to feed the input shaft into the pilot bearing and then walk it in with the larger bellhousing bolts.
I made my own engine support, and modified a floor jack into a tranny jack. Nonetheless it took 2 people at times and a good 2 days of labor.<p>Todd W
