Default UFO conversion for the V8q

If anyone out there has done this conversion or has any info on it, I would appreciate hearing from you. I am fed up with these brakes. Thanks.

Default Quattro Quarterly did a nice write up on it some time back....

if you are a member, you can access past issues online. Forgot which issue it was, but it was sometime in '99 or '00. Otherwise, you can get lots of help from Audifans.com.

Default The biggest difficulty...

will be in finding new strut housings from a wrecked UrS4/S6. BTDT. When you can find them, they are about $300/ea. Dealer cost? Well, I don't even want to think about that.

I just replaced one and after calling all over the country, I found less than four of them. Yeah, there are more out there, but again, it's a pain. Also, you are $600 down, before you even get to the good stuff.

If you love your car, then the conversion will be worth it. Good luck!

Default There is a kit available from Mov'it that will convert...

the UFO's without replacing the struts. It is available for the 200 20V. I think they also have it for the V8Q. They used Porsche 993 4 pot calipers and rotors. A pricey upgrade considering you'll need bigger wheels too...

Default Also...

it has been rumored by many people that if you get the car up to about 80mph and brake hard a couple of times the UFO's will straighten themselves out. I've heard this from alot of V8Q owners. Apparently it works Possibly a short term solution for you?

Why would you want to get rid of them, aside from the replacement cost of new rotors, and limited aftermarket wheel choices. Where else can you get a 12.5" (aprox) disc to fit in a 15" wheel? I have these brakes on my 91 200q avant, and I love them. These were designed for the V8 on the Autobahn, where they would have to stop a 4000lb car going 150mph, and do it in a timely and safe manor. Keep the brakes!

To all who responded, I just replaced the front rotors, front pads, and rear pads and they still don't seem to be right. I am a little confused on this issue. I have seen countless posts on several sites complaining about the UFO brakes. This is my first V8q so my experience is limited to the 2 years I have had the car. I have had several audi's & VW's( I will not drive anything else!) and this one has me jumping!I am looking to make this car the best it can be because I am in love with it! If you have anymore suggestions, just let me know. Thanks for all the responses. Grant
