WHAT IS WRONG HERE??

recently my car has been making "mini-backfire" sounds when shifting gears. This only happens about once during a regualr drive (normally 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th), but I would sure like to know what is causing this and how to stop it.

could it be an exhaust leak you are hearing?
