Default whats the difference?

what's the difference between the '89 and '90 200qt? i'm looking at them and the '91 and don't know which one to buy. i know i posted something a couple days ago, but now i wan't to know if the '89 is just as good as the '90 or should i just pay the extra and get a '91. Obviously miles, care, condition matter the most

Differences between the 89-90 are miniscule compared to the 91. Both great models with the newer dash style and flush door handles... I'm sure someone could point out the intricacies. They are both fantastic cars, with endless potential. You should really focus on finding the car that has been the most meticulously maintained.
I have both, an 89 200q, and a 91 200q avant, and side by side the 91 takes the cake for looks,
it's got a more muscular stance with the flared fenders and more rubber. And the 20v turbo is a much more refined & powerful version of the I-5.
I'd be happy with either, just find the one that's been owned by the fanatical Audi fan....it'll make your life easier in the long run....it's worth the extra money....

Either way you'll be happy!
Good Luck,
Aldo

Default Depends on the actual build date (more)

The early '89 200q has the MC-1 engine:
7.8:1 CR, K-26 turbo, single knock sensor

The later '89 200q has the MC-2 engine:
8.4:1 CR, K-24 turbo, dual knock sensors

I think the later '89s are the ones that start coming with airbags. All have the Procon-10 system and the cosmetic upgrades.

Remember, the '91 200q is a rare car and as such, can be hard to gets parts for. Undoubtedly, it's the best of the 5ktq/2cqs, but just a warning. For example, you won't find the spark plugs for a '91 at the local auto parts store unless it's a very well-stocked foreign parts place. Those FD5POR (IIRC) plugs are about $15 ea. mail order, I don't want to even think what the local dealer charges for them.

All that said, I'd love to get a '91 2cq, but they are so hard to find and some people are still asking well above $10k for the cars, so there's no way I'm getting one any time soon. If they're going to be $12k+, I'll rather go for an S4, as they are getting under $15k for the '92-94s.

Regards,
TM
