Push starting?
Anyway. Was backpacking for the last eight days and of course left the car at the trailhead. On return, the battery would not allow the car to start. With a ten mile downhill road from the mountains, I rolled the car down the road and thought I could start the car with the clutch..It wouldn't. I'm assuming it is now normal for a modern car not to start in this manner, but why is that now the norm?
An old, old couple, maybe in their ninties, stopped with jumper cables and got me going. Took him minutes to walk from the drivers door to the trunk where the cables were kept. I offered to pay him for his time but his response was maybe this good deed would get the fish to bite for him..
It's amazing how much current a modern car uses. One of the reasons manufacturers want to switch to 24 or 48 volt systems.
I do have a professionally installed subamp that i have always thought to be somehow drawing amperage when off, but I don't know how to confirm nor deny...
The next car after that, by the way, was a 53 Chrysler, push button automatic that I bought for $53 and a bag of pot. It used more oil than gas and I abandoned somewhere in Montana...Where, I can't remember..
