Need a mechanic recommendation in Fairfield County, CT
I was wondering if anyone can give me a recommendation for an excellent Audi mechanic in the Bridgeport/Trumbull/Fairfield, CT area.
I have a '98 A4 1.8T Quattro w/ 75K mi. Last week the engine started running rough and the Check Engine light began flashing. The engine was also making a ticking noise.
Since my regular mechanic of 7 years, who specializes in imported makes, was unavailable after repeated calls, I took my A4 to a local gas station/garage. The head mechanic there determined that one cylinder was misfiring. As a result, he replaced the cylinder coil for that cylinder and replaced all the spark plugs.
When I went to pick up the car and started it, the engine still ran rough and the Check Engine light came on again. I alerted the mechanic and, as a test, he immediately swapped the new cylinder coil with a coil from another cylinder. Unfortunately the car continued to run rough with the engine still making a ticking noise.
The mechanic then said that it could be a bad lifter. However, he suggested doing an oil change with synthetic oil and adding an oil additive (I've always used regular oil with this car and changed it religiously every 3,000 miles).
After the oil change, the engine ran smooth with no ticking noise and the Check Engine light turned off after I drove the car a few miles (per the mechanic's instruction).
Well, it's a week later and the car started running rough again. I called my long-time mechanic again, but there was no answer at the shop. I'm now at a loss. I don't want to take it back to the gas station/garage because they don't specialize in Audis.
I baby this car and take good care of it. It's been running like new since I bought it almost 10 years ago and I've never had a major problem with it until now. I want to keep this car for another few years. Geez, it's only got 75,000 miles!
If anyone can recommend a great Audi mechanic in my area, I'd be extremely appreciative.

I've had them do a bunch of work...shocks & springs, KMACs, front and rear sway bars, timing belt, brake work, serpentine belt...and I think even an oil change. I've never had a problem with any of it. <knock on wood!> They are most definitely worth the call. Ask for Drew...tell him Bryan referred you. By the way, I don't mean to sound like a commercial. They were highly recommended to me a while ago and now I highly recommend them to others.
Also, if the check engine light comes on and flashes, you shouldn't drive it. You could be hurting stuff. I hope it's not a timing belt issue. Could be a number of things....
