1.8T engine damage with chip? Longevity?
Has anyone actually damaged their 1.8t engine while running a chip upgrade? Considering APR. Audi makes it clear that any chip-caused engine damage is not covered under warranty-- but how common is such a problem? How many miles ago did you chip yours? I'd love to do it but would feel pretty damn stupid if I burn a valve or cook the turbo...

40,000 chipped-miles on my '97 1.8T....
....total mileage on car is now 60,800. I had a wastegate rod failure way back around the 22,000 mile mark, but that problem was somewhat common on the '97 and early '98 motors. I've heard several reports of the rod breaking on non-chipped engines also.
More recently I was the victim of a defective chip-socket on my ECU. The end result was I rec'd a new ECU from my dealer.
