A8 Tiptronic Chip module
Evolution Motorsports (www.evoms.com)offers a tiptronic chip to reduce the dreaded transmission lag on A8's (and I presume other audi's as well). It's $300 for A8's up through 1999 and $400 for 2000 and later models. I'm considering trying one. Has anyone tried a tiptronic chip? they're suppose to reduce shift lag time from 1 second to .2 second.

haven't tried the chip but...
Long experience with hydraulic clutch based transmissions tells me that faster shifts, while not as cushy for the occupants, are better for the trans.
You can go too hard. I doubt you could do so in a tip, because you are simply controlling the valving, not raising pressures in the pump, AFAIK. I have seen folks up the pressure in hydromatics to where the 1-2 shift shattered the case (behind a big block Chevy in a dragster)
I think the tip chip is absolutely the right idea, however, its like a good shift kit in a mechanically controlled auto tranny. Firms up the shifts, reduces slippage.

And that makes him?
Just because he works for an Audi dealer doesn't make him smart (not saying he isn't). I've heard from other trained techs and mechanics they have some generally not as capable guys in the tech field than others. They have guys there that just change oil/etc and then you have guys that handle A8 issues....
