Default Anybody know the login code for the VAG-COM to recode the soft code of a ECU??

Details:

2000 A4 1.8T
original ecu soft code = 07201
new ecu soft code = 07252

I want to change the soft code on the new ecu to the soft code of the new ecu, but I don't know the login code.

Please help,

Default What log in code are you talking about?

If the vag is asking for a log in code you are using a demo version. You need a full version of vag-com to change the softcode.

Default <homer> Duh! </homer>Thanks, just figured that out.

I've been trying to recode with the shareware version. Damn, there is always something.

Default Well that didn't work :\

I borrowed a laptop from a friend that had registered VAG-COM beta 0.78 installed. The soft code still won't change. Her is more info:

MY 2000 A4 18.TQ 5-speed

New MTM ECU = 4B0-906-018-Q soft code 07252 (ATW Auto)
Old ECU = 4B0-906-018-P soft code 07201 (ATW)

I want to change the soft code because I get DTC: 18034 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from Trans. Contr.

Anybody got a suggestion???

Thanks,

Default Well it is it looks like I can't...

this is what I got from Uwe Ross, the maker of the VAG-COM:

"You can be almost 100% certain that if this ECU doesn't accept coding for a manual transmission, then it won't work with manual. Automatic and Manual ECU's were often interchangeable (with a coding change) on M5.9 (pre drive-by-wire) cars, but on the ME7 (drive-by-wire) cars, they often are not. I don't know whether there is a physical difference between the ECUs or whether it's just a matter of different firmware in them."
