I've seen those on other cars (the QTEC, actually) and they are good for 2 things
1) Open them up at a stoplight and have a good laugh when everyone is wondering what the hell is making all that noise.
2) Racing, because it's too loud the torque loss down low was pretty large (on a supercharged car at least). You do gain on the top end, so it's a trade off.
You might want to consider the Quicktime Electric Cutout (QTEC) as an alternative. You can flip a switch to open and close it. It's not necessarily better, just different.

get the damn car to run right first before you do more mods.
oh and i have results on the greddy FMIC if you are interested. some logs and what not... bottom line the kit is very very good.... since i see you still havent gotten your DUH unit. and i installed it so that you didnt have to cut the bumper support, looks just like the DUH.

The car is running fine, the problem is passing inspection
and getting a PCV valve back into the system to keep the crankcase vent out of the inlet tube. In any case, I just wanted to throw this out there since Mark P showed how much power the S4 makes with a set of dump pipes. I have plenty on the plate before I look at doing something like. Winter is around the corner so power mods aren't really the thing right now anyways.
Are you going to post the results or would you rather share the data offline? I'm supposedly going to get my DUH this month sometime. It's already paid in full and I doubt I'll be able to get my $$$ refunded anytime soon if I decided to try the Greddy.

Re: I've seen those on other cars (the QTEC, actually) and they are good for 2 things
You have to remember this is boost activated so the valve or plate stays closed and then opens up when you are hitting boost to preserve the low end. Its just like having your normal exhaust and then it flips open while your hitting boost. A swith you are pretty much stuck having it open from the beging.
The QTC with electric motors have leaked over time, just do a search, you will see.
Put a manual boost controller in line with this and you can set it to open at 15psi if you would want to make sure you still retain your low end. I assume when you say low end your talking about when you are not in boost, which this valve is closed so the exhaust just flows out your regular exhaust.
Im actually very tempted to put back on my stock exhaust for the quietness(and make the police happy), then put this valve on my downpipe so I can get my power and keep the back pressure off the turbine. Hopefully i can have my cake and eat it too :-)

You're right on both counts
I hadn't considered that being boost activated fixes the low end problem and I have seen the QTEC start to leak (on a supercharged 3.8L engine, though...)
But either way, I think the noise is too much unless you're at a track.

I used the Qtec cut out for 2 months. It was koo @ first then it wouldn't hold a seal, it has since
been removed...
