Chip Question:........

Socketed Chips
It's not a detachable device, they solder a socket to the circuit board and the chip plugs into that just like most of the expensive chips and the CPU (Pentium) on your computer. It's a good way to go for up grades and if you want to switch back. These are programmable chips (EPROM's usually) and are upgraded from time to time, plugging and un-plugging, much easier.
Also warranty stuff, my understanding is the diagnostic computer can tell if your chipped so you may want to change for service calls.

I used to run APR v3.0 but now run various GIAC chips
I love having a socketed chip. I can swap programs as often as I like (more than just between stock and chipped) without spending the extra money on a new ECU.

I would go with GIAC or APR before going with TAP
I have had nothing but pinging from my Tap chip in the past. They even updated the version. It it still definately better than stock, but the thing just pinged even though I did an engine/fuel injection flush. Tried to change gas and everything to see if it was my car, but it was the damn chip. GIAC and APR from what I've seen and read about in this forum have been the vendors of choice and are very reputable companies. Again, this is only my opinion and experience with TAP. Others my have had better experiences than I. Gathering diff opinions is the benefit of having this forum 8^)
