Default comprehensive tuning manual?

Alright, I've been surfing around the Audiworld & VWVortex forums for a bit now, and I've managed to learn quite a bit about how certain modifications will affect my car.

However, there are still an infinite amount of things which I do not know, and would like to learn. I've just begun the Mechanical Engineering (transferring from Electrical Engineering) here at UM, and hope to focus in Automotive Engineering. So, needless to say, I need to learn more about this glorious thing we call an automobile.

What I'm looking for (and may be able to procure with a little help from you all) is a book that will tell me excactly How Cars Work. Sounds simple yes, but that's what I'm looking for... engine & suspension, exhaust & electronics... design and modification. If there's a good reference you know of, please tell me. And I'm sure of the fact that I'm not the only one on here who could benefit from the same

thanks in advance,
Jackson

Default of the 5 times I went to the campus library, 3x would be when I was looking for the same thing

well not about tuning but the basics and how the components evolved. I'm pretty sure whatever I read is now outdated. as a beginner, look for books that has 'the comprehensive/complete...' in the subtitle
books about tuning, will be more interesting later. these usually are in their own covers

Default Try any of Carroll Smith's books, all great and practical...

The theory books are great if you forget a formula, but meaningless when you want to apply that to a moving chassis. And, no I'm not parting with my old book, I was funnin' ya.

Good Books

Default Books relating to building open wheel cars are the most technical

and then you just extrapolate...
