ECU and TIP Chip feedback?

ECU and TIP Chip feedback?
I am about this close (picture my thumb and forefingers very close together) to getting the GIAC ECU and TIP chips installed in my 2000 A6 2.7T. What "horror" stories or better yet praise can people share about their experiences with these? What about recirculation valve upgrades?
I have also just read about APR's direct programming. I'm not sure if it works on a 2000 A6, but it sounds intriguing. Any experience out there??
