Default Electronic boost controllers

how do these things work? do they come with a mechanical part that attaches somewhere to the engine or do they just mess with the ecu?

also would having one require adjusting the bypass valve?

one last question which bypass valve is the best? It seems every shop wants to claim they have the greatest bpv and really they all seem the same except the Forge "race" one.

Default EBC's only seem to work with a turbo that is larger then a K04.

They use a step motor to control the boost pressure that is sent from the turbo housing to the waste gate actuator.

Default EBC

EBC is composed of 2 main items.
The new Pressure valve Motor and the actual computer section.

the pressure valve motor is a regulator which reads manifold boost pressure, vs compressor housing pressure.

The computer basically makes the attempt to learn and adjust this motor.

the EBC works best on larger turbochargers that have lag. the EBC helps it spool up much faster vs the N75 valve. On the K03 or K04 you will notice that the turbo responds too sharply boost hits strong and comes off way to strong. modulating throttle will also be a handfull since the K03/K04 turbochargers start to spool as low as 2K-2800RPM the EBC will peg it to your set boost. the EBC will also cause momnetarily lean mixture. The smaller turbo's is forced to spool faster and sooner that the original fuel maps are off.

If you do plan on using a EBC get one that is adaptive this will help smoothen out the boost spikes and delivery. Other EBC's that don't incorporate fuzy logic and such can't adapt as the turbocharer wears out.

Default Boost controllers do replace N75, but I've seen problems when

people install them, leave the N75 in the intake, electrically connected, but nothing plugging the two ports that normally go to the wastegate & turbo housing. Causes incorrect air flow reading from the MAF, under specific conditions, resulting in DTC's such as the famous "system too lean"........

Default That is why the instructions that come with the EBC

tell you to loop a hose between those to open spots on the N75.

Default the instructions don't tell you to loop it.

it tells you to cap the ends... but on our cars you must know that you have to loop it.

Default *shrug* I just removed mine completely and plugged the intake hole.

I don't mind the N75 open circuit dtc.

or you can run it in parallel with the MBC. Seems to be working on some cars.
