Exhaust theory: Effect of muffler + Cats on Exhaust Pulse???
While it appears pretty clear that a turbo has a huge effect on the exhaust pulse by, in effect, scrambling it as it goes through the turbine blades, I have read very little on the effect of the cats or mufflers on the exhaust gas pulse.
As for my 2.8's exhaust, I get very little exhaust pulse by the time it reaches the tail pipe; thus, I believe that the cats and mufflers significantly slow and restrict the pulses such that they dissipate completely when they collide with one another when they encounter an obstruction (like the cats or the muffler).
Theoretically, the vacuum left by one exhaust pulse should help pull the following exhaust pulse through the pipe and so on like one domino helping the next.
Any one up on their exhaust theory???
