Default Flipping through the August issue of EC...

and I come upon page 26...red 83 GTI and the 2001 TT. Then I wonder, "what would an old GTI like this be like with a 1.8T stuffed into its engine bay?" Even if only chipped, it would do wonders for a car of this mass. And a stage 3 Rabbit GTI...me would want one with a cage for the track! Can you say possible front wheelspin in 3rd?

Would this type of transplant even be feasible? Costly...yes...but possible never-the-less?

Default sure, it would work. The engine is basically the same thing.

I remember back in the late 80's people were putting in the 2.0 long block from Europe into their Rabbits and first gen Golfs. It would be a relatively simple swap. Just take an entire engine and tranny along with the wiring harness for the ECU and you are good to go.

Would not be too difficult to install actually. I built quite a few Rabbits and Golfs way back when

Default Great another dreamer...do it, it really is a Rabbit block, you can even go back to using

a distributer, although I don't know why, but in any case the hole is still there...they just blocked it off. On my 914 project I got rid of the power steering pump, fan, and AC compressor by using VW Rabbit pulleys...One V-belt.

Default Cy, I believe this has been done already. I'll try to back track and find the article

as I remember reading about someone doing this.

Any luck with the job hunt? Don't get disappointed as there is a saying "for every 10k of salary you want, expect one month of search" Roughly translated, this means if you want 50k/year, expect to search for 5 months.

Remember, if there is anything I can do to help, please advise!

Been to Il Panino yet? Great past for very little $$$.

Default I think that is why Neuspeed came up with that supercharger kit

With the cost of a complete engine swap as the baseline, the Neuspeed supercharger comes off as economical. Its not quite up to a chipped 1.8T in terms of performance but I would not be surprised to see more agressive tuning of that unit in the future.

Default No, and no....but I finally found it...

I thought it was buried in Little Italy, but saw it there by Fanuel Hall yesterday. I'll check it out soon.

Default Im not "another dreamer"! No reason for you to even say that!

All I said was the engines are basically the same and it would be a relatively simple bolt in, which it would. You obviously have never worked on a car, or at least not any of the early Rabbits and Golfs.

I think you misunderstood what he meant by dreamer.

Default Sorry Larry, it wasn't directed to you. In the future I will say "Larry TT, this is for you." It is

easy to misunderstand...ie. in Vietnamese slang, "Larry TT" takes on a whole new meaning.
