How to make it fast?
I'm new, and I've got a lot of questions so please bear with me.
I'm considering the purchase of a 98-00 A4 1.8tQ but after looking into the aftermarket for these cars I'm somewhat confused. It seems a lot of you have done the chip, filter, and exhaust, some of you have even done the bigger turbo, but it doesn't seem like they yield very good results.
I've currently got a 97 TSi AWD which is why the A4 is so appealing, but with my car it was simply a manual boost controller, ported manifold, ported Mitsu. Heavy Industries 16g turbo, better BOV and a 3 in. turbo back exhaust system and BANG!!! Four tire spinning, asphalt ripping, camaro stomping, slam you in the seat wicked fast.
My main question is why do these same things on the Audi not give the same type of results?
The Talon weighs 3300 pounds, so the weight is pretty much the same. It's an ODBII car so I have to deal with that as well.
I really want the A4 but would like it more w/300 horsepower.

It's expensive......
Plus for ur talon the after market turbo was A LOT bigger. If u want a fast car get a 99 GSX and get a 16g turbo. Tuned nicely ull be in the low 12s all day for less than 2k. THATS HOW U MAKE A POCKET ROCKET.

Re: It's expensive......
I've already got that in the Talon. Eclipse's & Talons are referred to as Diamond Star Motors, all built in Normal, Il.
The wife is suggesting I get rid of my "impracticable two door" and get something bigger. Well that leaves me little options. I was looking at the A4's thinking they were kind of like a modern day Galant Vr4.
What's the biggest turbo you can stick on an A4?

The problem is that the K03 (the A4 turbo)...
is very, very small. The 1.8T is a fantastic engine, but Audi wanted it to act like a V6. So the K03 has pretty much no turbo lag, and the engine runs out of steam at 6k on the tach. It's not a big turbo that you can dial way up.
You can get 220hp from a chip, exhaust, and an intake kit. After this, you need to replace the turbo, there are options out there that give you 280+hp. 300+hp is obtainable, it will just take more $$$ to get there. A stage III APR kit, for instance, runs around 5k.
Understand the A4 is not a Talon, while i love the Talon, its a crude car in comparison. 0-60 is not the A4's strength, but once at speed, the A4 is unflappable. You will get a car that is close to the Talon's acceleration, equal handling, a far superior quattro system, and an extra set of doors, so you get to keep a nice turbo car, but still do all the RL things you need done.
If money is not an object, then start with an S4, stock they are 250hp, chipped at stage1 they are 300, and you can build them high from there.
Cheers

Re: It's expensive......
Proabably the biggest you would want to run is a T3/T4. You could probably push 350hp with the stock internals. I think you could custom fabricate a very fast car much cheaper than the kits available from the big name tuners (however you would miss out on a lot or R&D). A K04 is a bad bang for the buck in my opinion. Injectors, manifold, intake, FPR, 3" exhaust, and intake. The only problem would be finding someone to program a one off chip for you.
