Default MAF Issues

I've checked prices today with 6 Audi dealers in So. Cal. and have been told the following information about replacement MAF prices for my 98.5 A4 1.8TQ:

~$90 for a "rebuilt" MAF sensor which one dealer told me was really new but being sold as rebuilt

~$400 for a "new" MAF sensor

I was also told that prior to VIN# 080000 (according to one dealer) and prior to VIN# W040 (according to another dealer) was a different part number for which there is no rebuilt MAF available and the new ones are ~$400.

So my question is: What is the difference between the "rebuilt" and the "new" MAF other than $300? Also, is there really a difference between the older VIN MAF and the newer VIN MAF for the 98 1.8T?

Finally, where can I get a cheaper new MAF than the $385 best dealer price quote I got?

Default Buy a remanufactured one and save yourself over $300.

Nobody can tell you what the differences are between the two other than Bosch.

Make sure they're the same part # as yours otherwise the gain on the sensor will be different.
