Maximum RPM's

Any opinions on potential engine damage in the following scenario:

2.7T, Tiptronic in Drive, doing about 50 mph, all operating temps normal, stomp on the gas, Tach goes immediately to redline, perceptable delay before rockets light and meaningful acceleration to let's just say 90 mph or so...

Can you blow anything up doing this? (assuming you don't run over the car in front of you and no Cops around)

Pressing the thottle all the way down, causes the tip to downshift 2 gears...

Sometimes I feel like unplugging the kickdown switch so that downshifts can be controlled only by using Tip mode.

Thanks for the info, makes sense now that that's what's happening. I agree it's a bit screwy to have all this racket when you floor it. These engines definately don't have a very sweet sound at high rpm. don't get me wrong they are plenty competent but I guess I got spoiled on my BMW's in-line sixes. They sing a beautiful notes. Will the Rev Limiter keep you from blowing the engine to hither and yon? The car is totally stock.

Did I tell you about the time...

I was going about 20 mph and punched it hard? Well my FWD 1.8 tip, shifted from 3rd to 1st and lit-up the front wheels, right in front of a city police car. Got written up for "Exhibition of speed". Cost $850 in lawyer's fee plus $130 for reduced offense (reduced to excessive speed. Next A4 will definately have AWD.
