Default Need some advice...

I recently installed a AWE K04 kit with ported manifold. When under full throttle the boost will hold and act as it should. When you floor the car lets say going 40 or even 50's in 4th gear lets say and floor it, the boost flutters and will bounce up and down a good 6 psi. Any idea's? The same thing happens in all the gear if the RPM's aren't that high(except 1st :-))

Another issue I am currious is the sound the turbo is suppose to make. Is the K04 significantly louder then a chipped K03? The turbo starts to make a whistling as soon as I am on the throttle and you can really here this thing go as it climbs to 7000 RPM!

Just curious if anyone else is experiencing the boost fluttering(Is this called surging?)

Default either you have detonation probs, the ECU is pulling back timing hence loss of power, or

it could be the infamous diverter valve

try replacing your spark plugs if they are old or getting a new FORGE valve, that should help

Default I got a forge now...

I'm gonna go drop a thing of octane booster in my 1/4 full tank and see if that helps, then I'll try new plugs. I checked all the hoses and fittings already.

Default how many mils do you have?

with my chip, my plugs were toasted in 15,000 mi
and i had same problem you have, upgraded to new plugs and VIOLA! it disappeared

What places carry Beru Ultra X plugs?What did you switch too?

Default I have experienced the same thing with this kit.

I was running lean due to my FPR. You should check yours. (I'm assuming you did install the 5bar FPR) Do you have access to some sort of OBDII tool? You sould check if you're not running lean. AWE's great customer service can send you a new FPR as they did for me.

If you're not running lean, then you have too agressive chip for your engine. Get a milder chip. An excellent 'mild' chip to get is GIAC version 30A. I have used it with great success and others swear by it as well (Clark@Turbo5 for example loves this chip for his K04) AWE can help you with that too. Your boost will be about 1psi less than with an aggressive K04 chip, but you will still have a lot more power/torque than a chipped K03.

Default I currently have the exact same problem...

I think I have a leak in the hose leading from the Turbo to the intercooler pipe. I checked it visually but I can't see anything, I have a feeling it's tiny split that only opens up under heavy boost. I'm going to order a set of Samco hoses and see if that helps. I've changed my bpv to a Bailey unit, new plugs, 5 bar fpr, and my boost frequency valve, nothing has helped. I'm running a giac chip with the K04 software. I have heard other people with this setup can get 18+ lbs of boost with this chip, I can seem to get past 15lbs no matter what I do.

Default The 30a is for a K03, not a K04. The more mild K04 chip is the 30k3...

I had surging with that chip as well as with the 30k4. Several of us are having problems with low boost and this surging problem. I tried my friends 1 bar Wett K04 chip/ecu and had the same problems I have with the GIAC chip. That tells me it's not the GIAC chip. I also had this surging problem with my GIAC K03.

The surging is either a spark or Air/Fuel issue, as a boost leak won't cause surging like that...
