Default Need some help with stuttering...

For the past month the car has been sttutering on and off most on first and second gear. It is actually a whiplash sttuter to the point that it stalls sometimes. This event never occurs at idle but always when taking off in first gear and second. The agonizing part is that it is not throwing any codes. I'm not sure where to look. The strangest part of all is at sharp turns it also stutters, and this could happen at any gear (Ex. making a quick 90 degree turn at 25mph). It is very strange. I already changed the plugs and nothing. Where should I look? coils? software went bad? injectors? Please note I've had this setup for the past two years and running good. If anyone can shed some light in my tunnel I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Mau

Hey Yippers...nice to see you again. It is very strange. It could be a wiring problem. The only wire I see somewhat exposed is the MAF harness. I always need to take off on first gear on the clutch if not it does the whiplash sttuter. It is not the usual bog or running too rich type of thing. Let me know if you can think something else.
Thanks
Mau

Default Will do ... a loose or sometimes shorting connection / wire was the only thing I could think of that

would cause misfires/stuttering with abrupt manuevers .. both acceleration and cornering. I would think any vac hose that was split enough to open under acceleration or engine torque would leak enough at staedy state to have thrown a code by now.

Default I would check the POS connections and you may be having it go bad.

This will however throw a misfire code, you can even log into adaptation 08 and log 015 and 016 (or 014 and 015 cant remember xactly), and watch the misfires as they happen. I sounds to me like a loose connection, but on thesecars, who knows. Plan on checking everything if you are not getting codes. I have chased problems that dont code for months at a time. Best take it to someone who works on thewm everyday and see if they have run across a problem.

Default easy way to check if its' your MAF wiring

unlug the MAF. If the problem goes away, your wiring is bad. I had the pins inside the connector get too loose on me. And when the ECU is trying to use the MAD signal, and that signal is intermidtent, I got that same sputtering. With no MAF, the car runs fine. Not as strong as with the MAF, but smooth. I ended up getting a new connector with a couple feet of wiring from Shokan for $35 or so. I would try this right away. You will know if this is the problem immediately and if it is, I suggest running MAF-less until you fix the wiring. If the MAF is going on/off/on/off from the wiring, it will quicly fry the MAF beyond fixing...trust me. GOod luck.

Default If it isn't the maf, I would look at pulling the fuel pump

sounds like something might be in the pick up or in the tank that is blocking the inlet. Because your issue tends to be in the low gears and when turning, but not all the time.

Default Whats ATWE? If he has coils he has a POS at least thru 2000

At least I am fairly certain of that.

Default ATW is the first of the DBW engines. They don't have a POS like we AEBs do. Rather than a single

primary output stage each coil has it's own trigger. 1999.5 was the last of the AEBs ...
