Default ???s regarding surging or inconsistent boost

I get occasional surging problems when getting to around 4000-5000 rpms. Yesterday it was quite bad, the car just felt weak and right around 4500 rpm, I felt inconsistent boost/power. Not quite as bad at partial throttle. Seems to get worse as the car warms up. The car is a stock '01 S4 and has around 3500 miles. I checked the tbb and it looked fine. Any suggestions as to what it could be? TIA

Default Did you remove the TBB and inspect it?

Sometimes the tears are under the clamps which make them hard to see if you don't remove the boot, but will still affect performance.

I didn't remove it, but loosened the clamp enought to move it and looked underneath - I didn't see any tears.

A search will also yield low octane gas.

If you want to be sure, I would remove it completely and inspect
