slight install problem, please help
i am installing a 97 aeb 1.8t into my 98.5 a4 the motor that came out was an aeb when we went to put the motor on the trans the top two bolts dont line up. one of the bolts goes thrue the trans but hits the motor block and stops. and the other goes thrue the trans and there is nothing for it to bolt too. both cars {mine and the doner}are quattro's. i am a bit worried, would bolting the trans up with just 6 bolts instead of 8 have any bad problems. it just seems weird i have heard that any audi trans will bolt to any audi motor{just like vw}. i need help the car is on the lift and there is no way im taking this motor back out i waited way too long for it. it is a fully built 2.0 liter. please help guys

Re: Well i bet your problem is the motor and trans are at different...
angles. Its actually easier sometimes to pull the tranny at the same time for this reason. But you should be ale to get the input shaft properly in the crank.
Sometimes I'll use a ladder to lift the back part of the transmission up higher.I'd unbolt the driveshaft first and loosen up the tranny mounts also. Start shaking it around till its on well. If its on well you can turn the tranny easy and the bolts will line up.

i will look tomorrow and see if i understand what you meen......
it just seems weird i have two leftover bolts .my roomate{also my mechanic}has done alot of clutch jobs on these cars so i would think he knows what he is talking about.

the tranny will rotate easily when on the crank.
So the bell housing is flat against the motor?
Did you check the threads on the bolt to make sure they are ok?
