Default Update on cooling and over heating issues.

I trimed the snot outta my front bumper to let the rad breath past the IC core. Still no luck. If I drive regular roads (no highway) the needle still moves to beyond the center mark. It goes almost all the way over to the next mark on the coolant temp gauge. When I'm standing still (traffic light..driveway, etc) it sits in the middle or almost. As soon as I start moving...so does it. Oil temps are reading about 225deg F. At this point it's not an airflow issue w/teh IC or bumper.

I'm thinking the following, Water pump, t-stat, fan switch, or (holds breath..hopes it's not) Head Gasket.

Any symptoms suggest any of the above parts MIGHT be shot??? How to check?? (possible Head gasket-coolant isn't brown..still pink though and no leaks or low coolant).

Default Have you made sure you dont have an air pocket somewhere?

You might want to just change out the T-stat now and install one that opens at a lower temp.

Default "MMMmm..feature...." Got some new info on the coolant issue..(you're gonna laugh at me)

Was installing my DEFI boost gauge (sweet....)and wanted to take the car for a rip. Got it on the HW with all the spite I've built up from this car all week. HAULED A$$ like it was it's job! 20psi..and the exhaust dump feels really nice. Come back down my street....and whoops..there goes the coolant needle right beyond center again. Pull in the driveway..dad comes out. "Pop your hood" ok.."feel your rad hoses lately??" sh*t..thought I forgot something. Top hose...hot as a bi*ch,,,bottom rad hose..cold...like sitting for the past 4 hours cold.

Leads me to believe thermostat..yes, no?? In which case...my local AutoZone or PepBoys may have it??? Maybe...I need to change the seals on my leaking oil cooler tomorrow..may as well do the t-stat while all the oil and coolant is out.
Would a water pump cause this also??
