20" Q5 wheel and tire question
And I regards to the ride, what difference could I expect to feel between 19" and 20" wheels? I'm in a loaner right now with 19" wheels and they feel great. But the wheels I want are 20"... Just trying to get an idea of cost differences for tires, and feel/handling.
Thanks!
The ride is much more responsive. You feel the bumps a bit more, but lateral wall stiffness is much better ... less body roll. The responsiveness is sooo much nicer.
As far as tires go, just look on tire rack. You can get anything from summer performance to all-season performance tires there (or at least figure out what you want to order).
I personally went with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS Ultra-high Performance all-seasons. So far the ride is great on them. Didn't want to have to switch out tires/wheels all the time, and I get a little bit of winter here, but roads normally stay decently clear.
Just look up Q5/3.2 on Tire rack, and then choose 20" tires, then choose all tires and it will give you everything that fits them.
So we've had the Audi 20" multispokes for a while...
Honestly, it is more cosmetic than anything, but the shorter sidewall does give a bit more handling than the 19's (all things being equal) and ride is still very good...
(we normally don't take it on trips as it's the smallest car in the house, but just got back from a 1000 mile round trip in it and were pleasantly surprised that the rough roads we were on did not transmit thru to the cockpit)
I just chose a 2013 Q5 3.0T and compared the results from the two different tire sizes listed:
235/55-19 - only 4 selections under $200 that aren't winters:
Tirerack selection
255/45-20 - 14 selections under $200 that aren't winters, including Kumho ASX & 4X, Hankook Ventus V12, some high performance summers in there, etc. Over $200, you can even get Michelin Pilot Super Sports if you want. Good selection here.

I wonder what other cars take that size? Seems like it's more common than the 19" size. Interesting....
506 never posted rim size so assuming 176 out of 500 known, is close enough to saying 1/3 of the Q5s are running 20"
Of these, almost 2/3 never posted ...or their pics werent clear enough
But of the known tires
12 Bridgestone Dueler
2 Conti
9 Dunlop
3 Pirelli
1 Goodyear
1 Hankook
7 Michelin
1 Nitto
1 Yokohama Parada Spec-X
Also known replacements used, 4 Yokohama Parada Spec-X (1 from new counted above)
and 1 Conti.
Sorry but thats about all I can say at present.

Just updated my info in the database from stock 19s to OEM 20's. Still running Conti though.
