At first, I really didn't want to pay the high cost of the MMI/NAV but thought that it would be nice, for a change, to have something as you have described. The f-ing maps(or lack thereof) are my only gripe with the system. Updates should be the easiest to rememdy yet Audi ignores the needs of its customers. Garmin updates for my Nuvi 275T come out at least once per year. I've received ZERO notice from Audi for map updates or software updates. Damn disappointing.

JustForFun, I have to respectively disagree with you. I'm not lumping all years problems into one car. The GPS, oil consumption, creaking sunroof and seats and lurching transmissions are all 2011 issues and can be found on this forum very easily, most on 2.0T models but also on plenty of 3.2 models.

Also, if you check most of these threads you will see that most of these issues continue and have NOT been conclusively dealt with by Audi NA or otherwise. A closer look will show that the best that has happened on most of these issues is dealer trial and error with many owners being told that their Q5 is "performing within acceptable parameters" or something similar.

I am, at the moment, quite literally NOT sold.

Audi did just come out with a nav disc, and for your Q5 for years 09-10 it is 4G0051884B and costs 86.63 from our website. I just asked a tech and he said any software updates needed are on the disc. You put the disc in and follow any on screen instructions. For customers in our drive-through they don't charge the customer to do this so that tells me it's a pretty quick job.

Jusforfun, I wonder if it would be beneficial to have a map version column in the spreadsheet? Would be interesting to see as the 2012's come in. FWIW, mine is:

Nav database version
8R0060884P NAR 5.4.7

Oh and if you're planning to add a 'happy' column you can put a YES on that for me

That's most of the reason why I don't think it's worth 3k for an integrated system. I had one in my old TT and frankly, it's never been updated. Nor will it ever get one. It's pretty non user-friendly when you have to punch in the letters with a scroll wheel. Factory systems are pretty much a dead end once it leaves the manufacturer's hands. Sure it's cool to look at when it's brand spanking new. But that wears off quickly. I still find the scroll wheel inputs (letters) to be clunky at best. They should've made updates to be free at least.

Jeff, that is interesting news. Can you give us any idea on whether, this update contains any software changes, whether the number of Points of Interest is greater than before, or how up-to-date new streets are in these maps? I may just pull the trigger and get one from your site, but I'm sure a lot of people are curious for these answers.

I was wrong on the disc I quoted before. That disc for 86.63 is a replacement disc for the Q5 should the one that came with the car get lost. So it's the same as what you have now. We did get in touch with our rep at Audi and like others have said, not sure what is going to happen. Audi is leaning toward making a disc with revisions on it but we don't know exactly what the plan is right now.

I'm sorry I steered you guys in the wrong direction. I have a list we use for nav discs and 4G0051884B had just been added to it indicating it was new.

So the nav data in the 2012's is 3+ years old?

I'd like to be optimistic and say it's 2 years old for the new 2011 cars on the lot. That the 2012's I would hope have this new version installed and won't need to be updated for another 2 years. Right now it sounds like the nav system is in a transistion to a new version and how that system is updated we don't know right now. It would make sense that Audi is also working on updating discs for owners like you that have been waiting 2-3 years already for something new. I don't know exactly what is happening there but we are trying to stay in the loop so we can provide you guys what you need when it comes out.
