If it has NAV, it's MMI 3G. 2013 Q5s should be coming with MMI 3G+ if it has NAV.

Could I conclude that without NAV, it's MMI 2G?

No, without NAV on a Q5, you just have a CANbus radio system, not a real MMI system.

Even the Audi Concert audio system is not a real MMI system?

I'm asking because I would like to add the Audi Bluetooth adapter (for music streaming) to my 2012 Q5 non-NAV but it seems to only work with 2G MMI system.

I've been wondering the same thing! I've read numerous websites and I still can't figure out if the BT adapter will work in my '12 Q5 non nav. I even called the Audi dealership where I purchased my Q5 from and the guy in the parts dept told me I have MMI 3G.. So that just added to my confussion since I've read the non nav doesn't have a MMI.

Hopefully we will be able to figure this out soon!

The Audi A2DP adapter works on MMI 2G systems (not in Q5) and the non NAV CANbus systems. If you have no NAV in your Q5 and AMI, then the A2DP Bluetooth adapter will work.

Beside having no navigation, the "CANbus radio system" seems pretty similar to MMI 3G, no? Why it would not be a real MMI system?

You basically have a radio and smaller screen with wiring to your amp and other systems. The original MMI was MOST fiber optic bus.
MMI 3G use a bigger screen, additional functions built into it with a harddrive with MOST fiber optic link to communicate data to other systems, not wires.

"The original MMI was MOST fiber optic bus". Are exists no original MMI?????
Harddrive with MOST fiber optic link ?????
Only the B & O system with MMI navigation plus is connected to the fiber optic link

With smaller screen coming MMI navigation
MMI navigation:
6.5-inch TFT colour display (1/4 VGA 400 x 240 pixels)
MMI navigation plus:
High-resolution 7" colour display (wide VGA 800 x 480 pixels)

Not a real MMI system ???????
Is exists a real MMI and are not real MMI???
But what is the MMI??????

System MMI does not depend on the navigation
For your information there are: MMI, MMI radio plus, MMI navigation, MMI navigation Plus( first generation of HD 10GB after 20GB)and last model MMI navigation Plus In combination with the Bluetooth car phone online using Audi's connect services (eg navigation with current Google Earth and Street View pictures, weather and news*Audi traffic information online). (A6,A7,face-lift Q5)

Good luck
