Default Wiper, Ice Stick

Enjoy reading the the thread of Q5 in snow, becoz I did find Q5 handles very well in the storm we had last weekend. But the wiper gave me enough headache. It turned out to be a useless ice stick after I am in the storm for only 20 mins. And I have to go out of the car and clear it every 20 mins. Anyone else experience the same problem? Any suggestions on winter wipers?

I use the Rain-X winter blades and they seem to work well. If you live in an extreme area then the heated wipers are also available:

can you tell what model wiper blade from rain-X do you use?

I looked on their webside-no application for Q5...

It seems quite some A4 and A6 owners are complaining about the awful wiper system in winter, but couldn't find a solution.

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2770780

Is the Q5 wiper system different from A4?

same here, on a few trips up to SoCal BigBear, in snow conditions, the wipers would just ice up and big clunks would leave streaks on the screen. not good..
have to admit I didnt throw anti-freeze in there, because I looked for it in a few places and couldnt find any. guess SoCal's not a good place to buy below32 wiper-fluid

Been with BMW for last three years. Just picked up an Q5 last week, this wipers are my biggest disappointment on the Q5. Doesn't seems like I can get a nice clean wipe. It will leave some white marks when it finshed wiping.

That's exactly what I thought!
Just returned a 2007 lease-end BMW 335i Coupe before X'mas and picked up a spanking new 2010 Q5 Premium (Stratus Blue w/Nav and B+O).

And this was and still is my biggest gripe other than some other little issues which I tend to compare too much with that on the Bimmer - not too fair I agree - separation anxiety after 3 enjoyable years, I suppose!

I brought it in to our Audi dealer here and all they did was cleaned the windshield and wipers and applied some solution on the glass panel. It helped a bit, but now it's back to the same useless wipe, esp on passenger's side. I guess that coating that sprayed on is depleted already. has anyone got a better solution to this?

I also find that the washer spray creates a mess on the entire front of the vehicle including side windows, mirrors and hood/quarter panels. This could be from the powerful headlight washers too.

MMI and Bluetooth works fine, but NAV is a bit lacking as noted on other posts here.

BTW, I've not seen any other Stratus Blue on this forum nor on the road - posted a pix here. Any comments from anyone?

I have the exact same gripe and I don't have headlight washers. I discovered today the SO's Toyota Highlander has a windshield wiper deicer when I changed the blades today. Would have been nice to know two weeks ago in the huge snowstorm we had in the NE. Considering how much more the Q5 is, I was kinda surprised by that one.

Next time you plan to wash your Q5 take the time to polish your windshield with glass polish. It's relaively easy and should remove all water spots and mineral deposits. It will leave the glass super slick and should help with your problem. I use Bosch Icons on my BMW and have not felt it necessary to change out the blades on my Q5 yet.
