2010 Q7 High RPM in Low Gear
I'm having an issue with my 2010 Q7 revving high when in low gear. It only does it when going up hill and have to switch to using manual mode to prevent it from happening. Not sure if the altitude has anything to do with it. Took it to Audi and was first told to flush trans. Took it back to have the trans flushed and was told that's not recommended and now being told its 2 of the cats. Any advice?

how many miles on the present fluid???
Does it do it when it's in Sport mode?
Are you front drains clogged? I ask this because if they are clogged the ECM etc get splashed or something around those cavities
I have a video for checking front drains,
If it's the original tranny fluid, it's most likely time to be changed, and no it is NOT lifetime, old burnt fluid is very bad for the transmission.

Just an FYI they r suggesting your cats are clogged which will cause the engine great distress trying to accelerate especially up a hill. Aka high rpm. But if u manaually shift it past and it acts completely normal or it doesn’t do it in sport mode then your cats aren’t clogged...

Thank you for the reply Bspurloc. There's 160,000 miles on the current oil. I didn't find where the previous owner changed the fluid but took well good care of the car. When in sport mode, it revs high but thats if i let it get to that point before changing into a different gear. They are trying to say the computer fired the cat codes 3 days after they changed the oil. It hasn't tripped the check engine light so Im at a lost.

Ok I’m a lil confused. You originally said they refused to change the transmission fluid claiming it was a cat issue. Now you are talking about oil? Or do you mean transmission fluid?
Sport mode changes the shifts to a higher rpm so it will rev higher before shifting I guess the observation should be is the car moving at a speed that is correct to the engines rpm’s or is the car struggling to go up the hill. When you manually **** it past this first shift does it seem normal acceleration up the hill?
These are all question trying to determine if the cats are clogged. Generally no codes will be generated from clogged cats as they appear to be working just limiting air flow.

Hello Guys,
AudiQ70615 did you find an answer for your Tranny issue, I have the same 2010 Q7 106,000 plus miles and is experiencing the same exact symptoms, RPM’s go between 2K-2.7K between gear shifts 1-4, and when I reach the highway to maintain 65 mph the RPM’s goes to almost 2.8K 70-75 it goes way beyond 3.2K I can definitely hear and feel the engine working extra hard, my 2010 A6 does 65 mph under 2K more like 1.8K-1.9K I know it may not be a fair comparison because the Q7 is heavier, but I am pretty sure the RPM’s were similar at those speeds for both cars in the past.
Just a little history of what I have done to the car prior to noticing the extra revving of the engine. 4 months ago I did an oil change and filter, I cannot remember if the engine was revving hard prior to the oil change or I was just in denial, This is her car she uses it for short distance during the week and I do the long drives on weekends. As luck may have it 2 months after the oil change there was a misfired I ran Ross-Tech VCDS diagnostics and it turned out to be cylinder 2. Ignition Coil #2 had gunk build up around the spark plug, end up replacing all 6 spark plugs and coils with OEM’s not sure if that had anything to do with it.
Any advice or news are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
