Default 2011 Q7 GPS Navigation Drive Location

Folks,

Wondering if someone can clue me into the location, or alternate locations, of the GPS navigation drive. I've checked underneath the rear right side by spare tire area. The one thing there other than a small thing that looks like an amplifier is a radio unit but no gps navigation drive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Ray

I think it is contained in the MMI unit in the dash, where you put your SD/SIM

I thought it was stored on the MMI Jukebox hard drive?

Yeah it is, I've presumed there is a laptop sized drive contained within the MMI module in the center dash.. Map Updates are done through the SD Card slot, copying it to the internal HDD, and Internet Google overlays are also cached onto that drive.

Most of the drive is used for mapping data, the amount of storage available for Media in the jukebox is just a fraction of the total disk size.

I doubt its replaceable or upgradable, its likely to have some form of copy protection on it.

Thank you. I've tried that as well and it doesn't recognize or find any updated source. I'm truly baffled by this.

No luck with that as well. I'm guessing that perhaps a VAG-COM is needed to make changes to the code or something.

The SD card option is interesting. Only thing is that I was sent the actual DVD from the dealer and not sure if I can copy all that to SD. I'll give that a try and let you know what happens. Thank!

I'm merely trying to update my navigation software. I still have the OEM maps that came with it (2011) and I bought this 2015/16 updated map on CD from ECSTuning and since there's no GPS navigation drive on the right side trunk, the only option is the MMI cd drive and that yields nothing as well.

I think you have a 3G MMI, not a 2G.. According to Wikipedia 3G came to Q7 in 2009.. 3G MMI Updates dont come on a DVD, they come on a SD card and require a diagnostics tool.. best to just have the dealer do it.
