Default Advanced Key Not Recognized

I have been trolling these forums for a while and continue to learn many things - finally taking the step for a first post. I have an 07 4.2P with advanced key and have noted that 3 or 4 times in the past 2 weeks, I get a message that there is no key recognized. In 3 of 4 times, I used the key fob buttons to "connect" with the car and the advanced key function reconnected. One time, I had to drive out by manually inserting the key. This has not happened to me before. Could it be due to a weak key battery? I noticed that the remote function of my key has become intermittent once I'm more than 8 feet from the vehicle. Your experience and thoughts will be appreciated.

Default Key Battery

A couple of months ago I had to change the key battery after getting a "weak battery message" and started noticing it was not working properly. Problem was resolved after replacing the key battery.

Default I had to replace the batteries in both of my remotes for similar problems as you describe...

..and I haven't had any problems since. Hopefully your problem is as easy to resolve as mine. I have an '07 4.2P that I had purchased back in Dec 2006. Interestingly, I've yet to replace the battery in my '05.5 A4 so I'm guessing that the advanced key functionality has a slightly higher current draw than the "dumb" keys.

Default Re: Key Battery

How or where can I get and change the batteries? Can I buy it and do it myself?
Thanks.

Default It's a standard CR2032 battery you can pick up at any drug store

you can replace the battery yourself:
1) Hold the remote so the buttons face away from you
2) Use a small flat-head screw driver to gently pry the cover off. Start at the area furthest from the Audi logo

Thanks! Your comments have provided credence to my suspicions. Having owned several MB and prior to the Q, an MDX, this is the first time I will ever have to replace a key battery. There must be continuous transmission between the key and the car that increases power consumption with advanced key.

Default Re: Key Battery

I was expecting a similar "weak battery message" which would have easily tied everything together but the threshold for this message to appear may be much lower than what is needed to maintain the advanced key function flawlessly. Although I was suspicious that it may be the key battery, the absence of such a warning threw me off.

Good to know - Thanks again.

By the way - it's been a while since I've read mksap (if it is what I think you're sig is referring to) and it was not yet in double digits back then. :-)

I decided to forego IM - only renal now.
