I have a 2014 S and I drive fairly safe, I don't accelerate fast and coast when I can as I approach the red lights. Most of my driving is 50/50, most of the time that I drive the MPG tells me that I am getting roughly 19-20MPG but when I fill up and do the math I don't get more than 17MPG. It is what it is, so far I don't have any real problems and love driving my truck.

I am curious to see what the numbers are post-recall for the affected TDI models.

For those drivers who have 2009+ TDI Q7 please post before and after real world MPG.

Thank you.

I recently went on a 460 mile road trip over the holiday weekend in our new Q7. I decided to see what the numbers were before any modifications or upgrades as a baseline for future comparisons. Vehicle had three occupants along with a full cargo area.

Shell 93 V-Power
463.1 Miles Round Trip.
450 Estimated Miles Per Tank
Actual Fuel Consumption 17 MPG.
18 Hours & 8 Mins Of Driving & Idling.
85% Highway, Interstate and Thruway.
15% Mountain, Rural, Unpaved, Twisty Roads.
Cruise Control Used For All High-Speed Driving.
21" OEM S-Line Wheels w/ Dunlop Sportmaxx 48 PSI (Nitrogen).
Dynamic Setting For All Highway Driving & Comfort For Everything Else.

I am not a gallon gazer or overly concerned but I was cross-shopping the TDI and I wanted to see if the premium for the TDI engine plus the .60c premium you pay at the pump adds up to any savings or at which point my savings would begin.

I see. For us in Canada there really isn't such a big premium for diesel fuel. In the winter diesel rises to be about the same price as Premium (or maybe slightly higher). Whereas, in the summer, diesel is the same as or even slightly lower price than Regular. Therefore, the average price over a year will be less than Premium. Makes the diesel decision in Canada a little bit easier to swing toward diesel.

Without being as detailed as you, my last road trip was in the summer loaded up with one more person + stuff. My Q7 TDI is running on Pirellis on 20" wheels. Probably 85% interstate and 15% suburban/rural driving. We saw roughly 1,000 km or so per tank or about 10.x L/100km. This translates to about 23 mpg. Even if we were closer to 11.x L/100km that's still roughly 21 mpg.

This was for Toronto-Nashville-Atlanta-Coco Beach (Fla), then Coco Beach-Morgantown-Toronto.

the greatest difference in price i have seen for diesel is .70c (USD) higher than shell 93 v-power. i am not sure why this area or region has higher diesel fuel prices than others but it has been this way since 2007 or so.
