Default Belt question

I was wondering if there is some special way to install this belt that is on the front of the engine. What I found is that it is like a timing belt that runs the injection pump. Is there going to be timing marks on all the components the belt attaches to? Does the injection pump have to be in time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are we talking about the 3.0 TDI? Or the 3.0T gasoline engine?
The 3.0T does have two belts but neither drives an injection pump. ( that high pressure fuel pump is driven off a camshaft and the injectors are electronic.)
The front belt drives the supercharger. It is simply a blower. No timing is necessary.

It's the 3.0 TDI. There is a toothed belt similar to a timing belt on the front. I know these engines are chain driven.

Hello, new guy here with 2012 Q7 TDI

I am getting a lot of noise from the HPFP area, not sure if its the idle roller, tensioner, or pump itself?

My car is still under the Extended Emissions Warranty which states the entire Fuel System is covered, anyone ever tried a claim on this?

If not, is there a procedure on how to DIY it?

Thanks!

Hi Mxzx. Did you complete this successfully? I own a 2010 Q5 3.0 tdi. Also hearing a winding sound connected to engine speed starting around 1800rpm. Decided to replace the fanbelt and tensioner and I think 3 pulleys. While the nose is off, I'm going to replace the water pump and the fuel pump belt with its tensioner. Haven't worked on a car for ages. Really hope I get it right. Starting tomorrow morning.

Yes, it turned out to be the water pump.

I replaced water pump, fuel pump belt, and tensioner, fanbelt, and all the rollers and the tensioner. The fanbelt rollers seemed to be making excessive noise. The water pump still looked brand new inside but replaced it anyway.
What a job! Had to remove the nose and loosen the radiators just to gain about 100mm of space. Took me about 8 hours. I was very careful not to break anything. Will probably do it in half the time if I knew how to.
