Default Interior of 2017 Q7 Dislikes

Currently owner of a 2015 Q7 TDI so took a 2017 Q7 out for a day recently as I plan for a potential buyback. I bought my car for the performance and the fact that I think the new generation Q doesn't look as good. But the interior definitely is lacking compared to my current car.

1. Hate the black gloss trim surrounding the wood pieces, dust and fingerprint magnet.
2. Center console is small and storage in the armrest is much less.
3. I didn't like the pop-up screen, distracting and annoying.
4. Too many menu driven items, that is also distracting. I like the array of buttons on my current car.
5. The entire front dash board to the right of the instruments looks undersized for a car of that size. It feels cheap and for me created a feeling of the windshield being too big/ceiling too high.
6. The new shifter is a bit bazar but I guess one would get used to it.

The only advantage of the new Q is the technology, especially the night vision assistant as I have a lot of deer in my area. Hoping a good fix is found for the diesels so I can keep my car a few years more. Just though I would share my perceptions.........

Default do what I will do (if the SQ7 or Q8 actually make it here)

go for audi exclusive. you design the colors of the exterior and interior to your tastes. Take the edge off the things you don't like, I didn't really care for the pop up screen either,
https://www.audiusa.com/technology/d...Audi-exclusive

it only adds about 30k to the cost of the car when you order it.

A 2015 3.0L TDI is most definitely getting a fix; they are not even offering a buyback option.. It has all the same emissions equipment the Gen3 2.0L TDI's have; those already have a fix available and dealers are selling them as new old stock, fixed.. and they are flying off the lots without much of a discount.

We had a 2008 Q7 S-Line with the V8 and fully loaded with the 21" wheels with tow package and adjustable suspension and were looking to replace. We drove the new 2017 and we were surprised that no S-Line was available. The interior was just too busy plus with out the S-Line package the car seemed bland. I heard that eventually an S-Line will be available in the US even though in other countries they are selling them but the price will be around $90,000 with all of the options our 2008 had. I found a new 2015 since they made no 2016 Q7's and it was identical to our 2008 fully loaded other then a Supercharged V6 with a sticker of $72,000 and made a deal buying it for $60,000 having it shipped from a Colorado Audi dealer. The technology in the 2015 vs. the 2008 is far superior and we are glad with the purchase.

I have a 2013 S-Line and a 2015 TDI. I can't see myself on a new 2017 Q7. I feel safe in my car. The car is solid! I don't feel the same inside the new one. It feels smaller and more delicate and its lower to the ground too. Plus it blends with the MDX and Pilot. I might be forced to leave the Audi in the future....I love my TDI and am not looking forward to have the mod done to my engine either.

Are you looking forward to the Emissions Modification payment for your 2015? ~$10k compensation doesn't help to lessen the burden of the mod?

I'm looking forward to it; Malone Stage 2 on my 2.0L TDI was great.. this 3.0L has even more potential to unleash..

For every yin there's a yang! Funny, I spent 5 hours behind the wheel of my 2014 TDI yesterday, the one I'll be turning in off-lease two weeks from tomorrow. In my head I went through the things that I won't miss and I much prefer in our 2017 Prestige. 1) The piano black VS silver plastic (good riddance...his has been Audi's interior faux pas on this era of cars, IMHO, and I know many others agree) 2) the small screen surrounded by silver plastic, 3) the awkward cupholder position (yes smaller on the new ones but at least I don't knock my coffee into the back seat every time the second one is open!), 4) the location of the arrow/back buttons for the MMI and having to bend my arm uncomfortably to access them (I kept trying to find the buttons on the wheel since that's where they are on the 2017), 5) BRAKE SQUEAL (OK, this should be #1 when driving in town). Lastly, the handling. Totally different, but the 2017 is just much sportier, so if you like the "truck" type feel, then the MKI will suit your taste, but if you like the stiffer, sportier drive, the MKII is a delight. (At least without Air, I don't have that in either)

Bottom line, love the 2014 for so many reasons, especially the TDI engine, but head over to the MKII forum and you'll definitely find yourself in the minority. Though of course that can be said of just about any auto forum if you ask for opinions/advice in the section where everyone is enthusiastic about what they own!

Glad you love the TDI so much, my pocket wishes I had as well, handing back my 2014 off lease and buying a new 2017 isn't exactly financial prudence at its best...
