Default Is this a manufacturer fault?

Mine is Audi Q7 2012 ( 5000m/87000km),
Last night while driving slow I heard a Banging, clunking sound below the backseat. I stopped my vehicle. The sound disappears in P position but noisy in D and N too!
Mostly it is something related to drive-shaft.
I towed it to the maintenance dealer and told I will pay 215$ if I disagree to the total cost after checking.
Now the question is:
Should it be called ''A Manufacturer Fault'',
I only had one problem (
Temp gauge) before and fixed at the dealer's workshop, never been in any kind of accidents before.

Wait until you hear what the shop thinks is wrong before jumping to conclusions.

Hard to believe it's a manufacturing defect at 50K miles.

Default dont jump

Let them diagnose the issue and then see what they can do. Audi authorizes good will repairs if they feel it is necessary, but it is up to the dealer to decide so I would be VERY nice to the service manager.

Thanks all,
Yesterday I was told to pay 3220$, yes 3220$. Then today decreased to 950$. And a part of the drive-shaft not all of it.
Mr.Abjb, in my opinion it should be a manufacturer fault. A drive shaft is a life time part, never had a problem with 300000 miles in other cars/vehicles.
I'll report this issue to Audi HQ and to CPA ( Consumer Protection Agency).

Do you know how far out of warranty you are? You mentioned mileage of 87000 km and a 2012 may have sold as far back as mid 2011, but I don't know what your original factory warranty terms were (80km?) You may be able to finesse a good will repair from Audi corporate or get the out of pocket reduced even further.

Be careful about going into it too hot with the dealer, Audi corporate, or national agencies. Be polite (but assertive) with everyone you deal with on resolving the issue. Also remember that ANY item/component/system on your vehicle is likely only covered by the original mfr warranty- even then they have ways out to deny warranty claims (i.e. no maintenance records, designated wear items, etc).

The term "lifetime" anything on a vehicle has been discussed numerous times and can be interpreted by the mfr to mean something very different than the pedestrian understanding of the term- "lifetime" can mean as short as the first owner, which is of course ridiculous, but that's why there is fine print in the terms of purchase.
