Power Module J519 has to be modified (2 x wire bridges have to be soldered inside, 4 pins) and the the module has to be re-coded to accept LED DRLs and get rid of error messages.

The wiring inside the headlight has to be modified as the pin configuration is slightly different for the DRLs and the old side light wires have to be moved and connected to the headlight so the DRLs dim when the headlights are on and so there are no bulb out messages on the dash.

Then the lights have to be coded and adjusted to module 55 (xenon range) to memorize the new settings.

This is for upgrade from xenon to xenon, not sure what is required to go from halogen to xenons.
seems like a lot of messing around for not a lot really.

Depends
Judging my the massive halogen driving lights behind the grille, XLR8IT obviously likes a LOT of light output at night.
If it was me, I'd also VAG-COM code the new HID DRLs to stay on with the main xenon beams as well...
I bet he's done this already too ;-)

Hey Tim you seem to know me quite well, have you been talking to my wife?
Finally got the new LED indicators ,so the retrofit is complete, I might start spending my money on something else now.

are the LED indicaters a good fit? do they need any mods to fit in the lower grille where the orginal side lights and indicaters were?

also what now functions as the side lights?

would like to do this, but need to save a bit and does seems alot of hassle.

did you do the upgrade your self?

The bumper needs to be trimmed a little but it is an easy fit.
The LEDs in the new headlights are the DRLs and side lights when the headlights are on(they dim by 50%)
I did all the upgrades my self , have done this and other upgrades for a few customers now ( Auto electrician by trade)

All depends on what you have in your car now, there are three types of led headlights, bi-xenon, bi-xenon with AFS and tri-xenon with AFS, if you car does not have AFS then you have to use the bi-xenons with out AFS, if you have AFS then you can use either the bi or tri xenon with AFS, there is no benefit in tri-xenon unless you install the module to activate the extra functions or wire up the H7 build in cornering lights to your high beams or fogs (thats what I did in my car with the tri-xenons)
