today the fuel filler door would not open

Yea, I wasn' teven sure where/how to remove the panel in the pictures. But the fuel filler should be directly behind that button/panel.

she may just be a bit virgin but she wasn't forthcoming. Got it opened and cleaned from the outside. But am still curious about getting back there, may try again soon.

Mine was sticking a bit too so I dropped a few drops of lube and now it wont stay closed!?!
Looks like I am going to have to replace the actuator. i will take some pics and post a bit of a DIY once I get the parts.
In the mean time I think I am going to just hack off the post so my fuel filler door is not sticking out while I source the parts.
