Default updating my MMI s/w

So last night I started the "journey" of updating my MMI to the latest software and maps.

It hadn't been updated since it came from the factory, so step 1 was to update to the latest s/w and I was able to get it all done within 30 minutes.

I've done plenty of programming and s/w updates are pretty straight-forward as long as you don't veer too far off course and you have the correct back-ups and such.

I'll be doing the actual map updates this weekend...if not earlier.

Where did you get the update and would you be willing to sell a copy?

It's not as simple as a copy/paste function. And at the very least you'll need access to the engineering menu of your mmi.

So you actually programmed it?
I do have VCDS, access to green and red engineering screen.
I am tech literate but would not want to mess it up either.
I have seen the SD card updates and did read something about the dealership having to do some programming, but if it is something I could do myself, I would.

From what I've found the only thing to not mess with is updating anything with the sound system. Apparently that's how a lot of people end up bricking the system, Bose updates. I too have seen SD cards on EBay, but they mostly seem to be only for the Euro Q7's and no maps.

Perhaps we can get a fund started and pass around the software and maps, so we all benefit and split the cost into peanuts?

what was gained from this update? did it fix anything you were having issues with or improve any behavior? If all we know it just changes a version number I think I'll pass.. Navi updates would be nice tho, mostly for accurate speed limits since they recently seem to be changing frequently on the West side of the country.

Hey folks...like I've said before, it's not just a copy/paste, load format for these. Unless you are comfortable with low-level coding, akin to C and are familiar with compiling code, I'd not recommend doing it on your own. Since all maps require activation through a unique VIN, which essentially makes each activation specific to each device (i.e. vehicle).
