Weird black marks at the bottom of car
Hi there,
I had the 5000 mile oil change done yesterday at the dealer. Also had a car wash there. After i got home, i realized i forgot to ask for a undercarriage wash. So i took a look at the bottom to see if i needed to do it myself (we had a couple of snows last month). That was when i noticed the mysterious burn marks. See the pictures. Not sure where and how they came. Is ther any expert who can explain? I also noticed there is water driping down from the center of one of the burn marks. But there is no water source near by. It seems there is a screw there and water can come down from there. Can someone help? Thanks!
Two black marks. One can see water at the bottom of black area to the left. There is a screw under the water. Similar screw can be seen at the bottom of the right black area
Close up on the black area to the right. No water there. But the black area is bigger than that to the left
Another close up
It seems to me that there is some water in that thing (not sure what it is), and it comes out thru the two screws, and there is carbon in the water. The vaporization of water causes the crabon to be left there

The car was bought 5 months ago! Just reached 5000 miles. Is it a big issue? Need repair right away? I will be out on a biz trip for a couple of months. My wife will drive it. Should i get it fixed before the trip?

That is just the rear box in the exhaust.
I am not sure why there is a hole in it, maybe it's there to allow condensate to drain out but I have never noticed a hole in an exhaust like that.
There is unlikely to be any problem driving it and it is highly unlikely any fumes could reach the interior of the car. I would ask the dealer what it's there for but not too much to worry about.
