Default What air freshener do you use?

Figured I would post this as most people use air fresheners. While some air fresheners are overbearing and some don't even work at all. They're a nice thing to greet you as you enter your vehicle. I've seen this type of post on other forums but each car has a certain type of buyer. While Honda drivers will most likely use fake new car smell, and Mercedes owners will use a leather smell. What do Audiworld members prefer? The one air freshener that I use that I really enjoy is Black Ice by Little Trees. What does everyone else use? Any recommendations?

i prefer my vehicles to void of any odor or scent instead of masking an order.

Default Not fond of air fresheners at all...

… but Griot's makes a fine leather scent that I spray a shot into the carpet after detailing. Its subtle and revives the leather scent.

I hear you, unfortunately for me, my Q7 was used and the previous owner smoked in it, so I'm constantly trying to get rid of that disgusting odor, air fresheners seem to be the only way.

Find a detailer with an ozone machine. That will have some impact on the odor.

Covering up the odor is futile as noted by iconoclast.

Ugh. I would have passed on the car, regardless of how "good" a deal it was. That odor will always be in the "background" no matter what you do to try to eliminate it. Ozone, steam cleaning the carpets, Febreze spray, etc. can help, I'm told. Some hide dryer sheets around the interior.

Good luck.

I would have most certainly passed up the car but when I looked at my Q7 it smelled fine, the cigarette smoke smell was faintly there, but barely noticeable. the dealer must have used some high quality air freshener that masked the smell pretty well, the smoke smell didn't get that bad until about 3 weeks later. I've been using black ice air fresheners once per week since then. I seriously believe smoking in a vehicle should be illegal. It's the most disgusting thing someone can do to their car.

Default A suggestion for Smoke smell….

… other products of theirs: 1) Odor Eliminator. Its not a coverup and I have had good luck with reviving my daughters or their boyfriends used cars (which always end up in my garage for free oil changes, etc.). I am surprised at how well it works. 2) Desiccant, the smell needs moisture to carry it along. Cleaning the ducts in the AC lines may help as keeping a bag of desiccant under the seat. I no longer do that as SoCal is very dry. But in New England, with its high humidity, the desiccant was a boon.

Good luck

Eric
