Default Bose Power amp water problem

I just removed my Bose power amp and took it apart. You can see the PDF of the unit and what the problem might be. Could be common to a bunch of these because of where the water gets in the amp.. we're going to clean up and check my amp out and cross our fingers that is starts working again. lots of corrosion shorting leads. The attached PDF just has a bunch of information if any one is interested in seeing the problem.. Once we clean it up and see what's wrong I'll report back... I think the damage was done when my sun roof was leaking but it took 2 years to finally die from corrosion. I don;t think my sun roof is leaking now, but I'm going to leave it in pieces to find out.. have to wait till the temps get back up above 32..

The old part number 4L0-035-223-D for the Bose amp has been superseded with 4L0-910-223-G. No luck yet. Bose recommends talking to Audi about the issue. trying to find a used one. I did find this company in England that repairs them. http://www.svtservices.co.uk/

we figured out what was wrong with the power amp, We had corroded traces on the board under the optical interface part. Removed the part and cleaned it all up and now the power amp works. So in this case I don't think it was water, well it was water but from two years ago when I had the problem. Took this long for the corrosion to work it's way into teh board. most of the board is comformal coated and sealed but not around the edges. so we're going to seal it up and put it back in and cross our fingers. screwing around with it the system doesn't reconize the navagation system now. I have to figure that out now...

Got Navigation system working again by just pulling the number 7 fuse on the brown fuse block in the back right corner. it's a 5 amp fuse. I pulled it ouot and back in and the DVD started working again. Not sure why it stopped. System now sees it and it seems to be working.. I hope the whol esystem keeps working now. Fuse is next to the 30 amp fuse for the Bose power amp..

Default Bose Amp fix

First off, thanks for taking the time to post this thread. I have gone through all of the steps you detailed, except for taking off the optical interface part to check for corrosion. I'm assuming that the interface that you're talking about is the black optical connector closest to the corner of the pcb. If that's the case, then I believe you must have used a soldering iron to remove & replace. If you could confirm, that would be much appreciated. I'm just livid with Audi for pleading ignorant and not taking care of the problem when it first surfaced. And to think that the dealer replaced yours without installing a fix to protect it from future exposure. That is just down right fraud in my opinion. They are milking this to the point that they will lose faithful Audi owners. Again, thanks for all your insight & guidance.

Hi.
Thanks for posting PDF.
What did you use to clean corrosion?

My radio/CD player is not working, everything else is fine.
It was working before from time to time, but now it stopped completely.

Thank you for your reply.
I am completely lost, and don't know what to do.

These are symptoms on my car.
Radio works, but not always. looks like after a while it starts working.
CD player used to do same thing but now stopped completely and can't get sound going.
Everything else is working.
I took my amp out and found some white marks, looks like it didnt get anywhere inside but after I cleaned it works more often but still not all the time and CD player is still not working.

Here are pics form my amp before I cleaned it.
This is bottom plate, so water could not get far up to the board.

It looks bad, try to clean it up with contact cleaner, look at the welds if any need to be redone.
