Just finished with my 2011 Q7 TDI:

32 mm socket is needed for oil filter canister
Oil filter canister is under engine cover right in the top center of the engine
Both under body coverings need to come off

I just changed the oil in my '07 Q7 4.2 SLine, this info holds true. Very simple job, the hoses that cross the filter housing are not that much in the way and I was able to maneuver the filter & housing out without any issue. Removing the filter from the canister was a little hard to figure out at first, just tilt and pull hard and it will come loose. As it was my first time, I took my time to complete the job. Now that I am familiar with everything, this could be done in 45 minutes.

Does anyone know where the cabin filter is located for the 2011 Q7?

Confirming - the 36mm socket does not fit on my engine (2008 3.6L). Back to amazon it goes...someone else commented 32mm to ordering that up.

Also...both my wipers are 26", vs. 26" & 24"....another return to Amazon Just in case anyone is pairing wiper change with their oil change!

I dropped the passenger side blade from 26 to 24 because they get so close on my '07 4.2 I'd swear they hit. So I run 26/24. Also, no need to get blades at Amazon. I got mine at possibly Menards (or Meijer). I bought the 36mm socket for the oil filter cap on my '07 3.6, it fit but whoever last changed the oil must have used a breaker bar to reinstall the cap. I couldn't get it loose. I almost couldn't get the drain plug loosened either. Completely un-friggin'-necessarily tight.

Just wanted to post thanks for the instructional write-up. This is almost spot on with my wife's 2010 Q7.

Also, wanted to second/third/fifth the fact that this is probably the worst car on which I've ever had the pleasure of changing the oil. It was not engineered for your home mechanic. Or any mechanic.

+10 on this, I tried doing mine but the pan bolt was so freaking tight I took it to the mechanic for the change, didn't want to strip it. I even bought a new bolt and told him not to supertighten it. Will do it myself next time but man the filter is up there where the tools don't like to go.
